Carl was only 16 when "Mona Lisa" became a hit. The record was broken by disc jockey Dick Biondi on WKBW in Buffalo, NY.
He toured the same cities as Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper, the summer after their death in that tragic airplane crash.
"Mona Lisa" sold a million plus copies in 1959. His follow up hit "Pretend" sold 500,000 copies.

Carl Mann was born and raised in Huntingdon, TN. Carl Mann Day was celebrated in the town in September 2006.
Harold Jenkins (Conway Twitty) recorded his own version of Mona Lisa, after hearing Carl record it live at Sun Studios. Carl's version went higher on the Billboard and Cashbox charts.
